Programme Breakdown

Week 1 – AI for Policymakers

Participants will complete a 5-day course which builds the foundational knowledge required to govern frontier AI systems effectively. The course will cover frontier AI from 3 different perspectives:

  • Micro: the scientific and technological dimensions of general-purpose AI, including the basic principles of deep learning, and the different stages of AI development

  • Macro: an overview of the broader supply chain behind frontier AI, moving from chip manufacturing to cloud computing and data labelling

  • Applied: an introduction to model evaluations as a tool for informing policy

Weeks 2 & 3 – AI Policy Project

  • Small teams will each be assigned a policy question by someone with experience as a UK Government AI policy advisor.

  • Teams spend weeks two and three conducting desktop research and consulting with AI governance professionals and technical experts.

  • At the end of the third week, each team presents their policy memo to the policy advisor and receives feedback on their efforts.

*This was previously erroneously listed as £200 per week
